Scholarships and Financial Aid

Students with financial needs may apply for financial assistance in the form of grants, bursaries and loans. Fellowships, scholarships, awards and prizes are bestowed on the selected recipients including new students on the basis of academic merits and other criteria set by the donors. Requests for the most updated information should be directed to the Office of Student Affairs.


Government Grants and/or Loans

The following financial assistance schemes administered by the Student Finance Office (SFO) of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA), HKSAR Government are available to local students with financial needs:  

  1. Tertiary Student Finance Scheme—Publicly-funded Programmes (TSFS)
    This scheme offers financial assistance to full-time local students of University Grants Committee-funded (UGC-funded) programmes with financial needs in the form of grants and/or interest-bearing loans.  The maximum grant is equal to the tuition fees payable and academic expenses for the programme of study.  The maximum loan which relates to the living expenses varies every year and is the same for all students. Students may also apply for subsidy under the Student Travel Subsidy Scheme.  Additional subsidies, funded by Community Care Fund and amount depending on the means test level, are offered to successful applicants with proven special educational needs and, who are undergraduates and reside in the University student hostel respectively.
  2. Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Full-time Tertiary Students (NLSFT)
    This scheme provides financial assistance in the form of interest-bearing loans to all students who are eligible for assistance under the TSFS.  The maximum loan is capped at the tuition fees payable.
  3. Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP)
    This scheme offers financial assistance to full-time local students, aged 30 or below, engaging in locally-accredited self-financing programmes leading to a qualification at sub-degree or degree level in the form of grants and/or interest-bearing loans.  The maximum level of financial assistance is made up of tuition fee grants, academic expenses grants and living expenses loans, which vary every year.  Students may also apply for subsidy under the Student Travel Subsidy Scheme.  Additional subsidies, funded by Community Care Fund and amount depending on the means test level, are offered to successful applicants with proven special educational needs and, who are undergraduates and reside in the University student hostel respectively.
  4. Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS)
    This scheme offers financial assistance in the form of interest-bearing loans to eligible students under FASP to meet their tuition fees, with no age limit.
  5. Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS)
    This scheme offers financial assistance in the form of interest-bearing loans to part-time local students of University Grants Committee-funded postgraduate programmes or local students of eligible self-financing programmes who are not covered under the TSFS or FASP.  Same as other Non-means-tested Loan Schemes, the maximum loan is capped at the tuition fees payable.
  6. Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students (SSE)
    The Scheme, established and funded by the HKSAR Government, offers means-tested grant to financially needy local students of full-time locally-accredited sub-degree and undergraduate programmes to participate in outbound exchange programmes. 
  7. Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt & Road” Regions for Post-secondary Students (Means-tested SSEBR)
    The Scheme, established and funded by the HKSAR Government, offers means-tested grant to financially needy local students of full-time locally-accredited sub-degree and undergraduate programmes to participate in exchange activities held in the Belt and Road regions.
  8. Scheme for Non-means-tested Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt & Road” Regions for Post-secondary Students (Non-means-tested SSEBR)
    The Scheme, established and funded by the HKSAR Government, offers non-means-tested grant to local students of full-time locally-accredited sub-degree and undergraduate programmes to participate in exchange activities held in the Belt and Road regions.
  9. Non-means-tested Mainland Experience Scheme for Post-secondary Students (Non-means-tested MES)
    The Scheme, established and funded by the HKSAR Government, offers non-means-tested grant to local and non-local students of full-time locally-accredited sub-degree and undergraduate programmes to participate in exchange activities held in the Mainland.

Fellowships, Scholarships and Awards for Postgraduate Students

  1. ACCA Hong Kong Scholarships
    特許公認會計師公會香港分會獎學金
    A number of fee waiver scholarships that cover the ACCA registration fee/annual subscription fees/exemption fees/examination fees are available to Accounting students who have outstanding academic performance and eagerness in registering with ACCA before a set deadline after the scholarship is awarded.
  2. Ada S H Li Social Work Practicum Scholarship
    李信卿社工教育實習獎學金
    Up to fifteen scholarships of at least HK$5,000 each are available to full-time local undergraduate or postgraduate Social Work students with outstanding academic performance, personal qualities and non-academic achievements who have practicums outside Hong Kong, such as Canada, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan and China.
  3. Admission Scholarship for Outstanding Students of MA in Language Studies
    優秀學生入學獎學金
    A number of scholarships ranging from HK$8,000 to HK$30,000 each are offered to incoming Master of Arts in Language Studies students who (1) obtained first or second upper honours classification from their first degrees, which must be relevant to language studies (linguistics, translation, English language & literature, etc.); (2) are graduates of the UGC-funded HKBU Bachelor of Arts (Hons) programmes; or (3) have excellent academic record in Mainland universities and good TEM8 (Test for English Major—Level 8) result.
  4. Belt & Road Scholarship (Research Postgraduate) 
    一帶一路獎學金 ( 研究式研究生 )
    A scholarship fund, established by the HKSAR Government, awards scholarships to outstanding non-local research postgraduate students from countries along the Belt and Road. The scholarship is tenable for the normal duration of the study programme concerned and renewable annually subject to satisfactory academic performance of the recipients. 
  5. China Daily Scholarship for MScBM Students
    香港中國日報商業管理理學碩士研究生獎學金
    Scholarships of HK$10,000 each are awarded to full-time Master of Science in Business Management students with outstanding academic performance, contributions to the Programme/University and active participation in community services. 
  6. Class of 1985 30th Anniversary Scholarship
    1985 屆畢業 30 周年誌慶獎學金
    An endowment fund of HK$300,000, donated by the Class of 1985 Alumni, provides a scholarship for a MPhil/PhD History student who has completed an exchange programme with excellent academic achievements. 
  7. Commercial Radio 50th Anniversary Scholarship
    商業電台金禧獎學金
    An endowment fund of HK$5 million, donated by The Jessie & George Ho Charitable Foundation, provides ten to twelve scholarships of HK$20,000 each for outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Communication. 
  8. CPA Australia Distinction Award
    澳洲會計師公會卓越表現獎
    A scholarship of Member Entry Assessment waiver, one-year free Associate Member subscription and Enrolment Fee waiver for an exam are awarded to a student undertaking the Master of Accountancy programme, who has interests in the CPA Australia qualification.
  9. DBA Distinction Scholarship
    In each academic year, DBA students would be awarded a DBA Distinction Scholarship of HK$6,000 if they have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.67 or above at graduation, have no course grade below B-, have not repeated any courses (subject to the same conditions applied to the Distinction academic standing) and can graduate within four years without suspension. 
  10. DC Foundation Scholarship 
    滙溋基金獎學金
    A number of scholarships of HK$10,000 each are awarded to (i) Master of Fine Arts in Film, Television & Digital Media Programme students who demonstrate excellence in their MFA Thesis Project I (Production), and (ii) UGC-funded undergraduate students of the Academy of Film (Year III or IV) and Higher Diploma in Creative Film Production students (Year II) who demonstrate excellence in their academic performance. 
  11. Dean’s Scholarship for Research Postgraduate Research Achievement of School of Business
    A scholarship of HK$20,000 is available for research postgraduate students of the School of Business who publish in “A” journal (as defined in the BUS Journal list) in an academic year. 
  12. Department of Chinese Language & Literature Research Postgraduate Student Exchange Scholarships 
    研究生交流學習計劃獎學金
    A scholarship of HK$5,000 to HK$10,000 is available to encourage research postgraduate students of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature who have financial needs to study in a non-local institution, so as to broaden their horizons.
  13. Departmental Postgraduate Research Scholarship
    A maximum of two scholarships of HK$5,000 each are available to research postgraduate students of the Department of Computer Science who have excellent performance in research. 
  14. Diversity Contribution Scholarship for MSc in Applied Accounting & Finance (MScAAF)
    This scholarship is attributed to new entrants who can enhance the diversity of the programme based on criteria like their international exposure, cultural experiences, overseas education, work experience, special achievement and talents. The scholarship amount ranges from half tuition waiver to full tuition waiver.
  15. Diversity Contribution Scholarship for MSc in Finance (FinTech & Financial Analytics)
    This scholarship is established with an aim to create a learning environment with diversity which inspires students with diverse background and thinking to participate and be involved, and offers greater understanding of the world ecosystem of finance. Applicants are assessed on a broad spectrum of criteria such as international exposure, cultural background, work and life experiences, special achievement and unique strengths. The scholarship amount ranges from half tuition waiver to full tuition waiver.
  16. Dr & Mrs Hung Hin Shiu Chinese Medicine Postgraduate Scholarships
    孔憲紹博士伉儷中醫藥研究生進修基金
    A scholarship fund of HK$3 million, donated by Dr and Mrs Hung Hin Shiu, provides scholarships to outstanding postgraduate students in the School of Chinese Medicine. 
  17. Dr Arthur Lau Award in Gender History
    劉聚富博士性別史論文獎
    An award of HK$2,000 is awarded to a final year undergraduate or graduate student who demonstrates excellent knowledge of and insight on gender history, preferably within the pre-modern era. Graduate recipients should have published scholarly articles on gender history in well-established journals. 
  18. Dr Catherine Chan Scholarship
    陳淑禎博士獎學金
    An award of HK$20,000, donated by Dr Catherine Chan, is awarded to a full-time postgraduate student of the MA in Translation and Bilingual Communication who has achieved excellent academic achievements.
  19. Dr Stephen Chan Sacred Music Scholarship
    陳贊一博士聖樂獎學金
    An endowment fund of HK$125,000, donated by Dr Stephen Chan Education Foundation Limited, provides a scholarship of HK$5,000 to a full-time associate degree student/undergraduate/postgraduate who has participated in music related activities at the Chaplain’s Office and has cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above. The student should also have outstanding achievements in music courses within/outside of HKBU. 
  20. Dr Wu Yee Sun Memorial Scholarship Fund
    伍宜孫博士紀念基金研究生獎學金
    An endowment fund of HK$3 million, donated by Dr Wu Yee Sun Charitable Foundation, provides scholarships to local postgraduate students with financial needs. 
  21. ECON84 Outstanding Scholarship
    經濟系 1984 校友獎學金
    This fund was donated by alumni of Department of Economics graduated in 1984. The purpose of this scholarship is to award students of Master of Science in Applied Economics who have achieved outstanding academic performance at the time of graduation.  
  22. Eden & Ling Kwok Scholarship
    郭中鄭齡獎學金
    A one sum contribution of HK$100,000, donated by Prof and Mrs Ng Ching Fai, provides a scholarship of HK$4,000 to a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate student with disabilities, good academic standing and financial needs.

  23. Entrance Scholarship/Young Talent Scholarship for MSc in Applied Accounting & Finance (MScAAF) [available to full-time mode of study only]
    Scholarships ranging from HK$5,000 to HK$50,000 are awarded to students with outstanding academic performance and public examination results. Applicants who submit the complete application before the deadline of the first round admission will be considered for the scholarships automatically. 
  24. Entrance Scholarship/Young Talent Scholarship for MSc in Finance (FinTech & Financial Analytics) [available to full-time mode of study only]
    Scholarships ranging from HK$5,000 to HK$50,000 are awarded to students with outstanding academic performance and/or public examination results. Applicants who submit the complete application before the deadline of the first-round admission will be considered for the scholarships automatically.
  25. Entrance Scholarship of Department of Computer Science
    A number of scholarships of up to HK$6,000 each are awarded monthly to freshmen of research postgraduate students of the Department of Computer Science with excellent academic records in their undergraduate studies.  
  26. Entrance Scholarship of MSc in Advanced Information Systems & Information Technology Management Programmes
    A number of scholarships of up to HK$50,000 each are available to freshmen of the Master of Science in Advanced Information Systems and Information Technology Management programmes with excellent academic records in their undergraduate studies. 
  27. Excellence Academic Performance Award for MSc in Applied Accounting & Finance (MScAAF)
    Student(s) who obtained the highest cGPA in the class will be awarded at the time of graduation.
  28. Excellence Academic Performance Award for MSc in Finance (FinTech & Financial Analytics)
    Student(s) who obtained the highest cGPA in the class will be awarded at the time of graduation.
  29. Exchange Scholarship of MSc in Analytical Chemistry Programme
    A scholarship of up to HK$20,000 is awarded to both full-time and part-time local and mainland students of Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry programme who participate in the exchange study with academic merits.

  30. MScGMM Global Exposure Award
    A maximum of five awards of HK$40,000 each are awarded to MScGMM applicants with global exposure. Applicants will be assessed by a panel based on their extent and degree of multicultural experience, including but not limited to international education and working experiences, as well as participation in prominent international organizations or events.
  31. Graduation Distinction Award
    Students of MBA or Master of Science in Business Management (MScBM) who have attained an overall cumulative GPA of 3.67 to 4.00 at graduation (subject to the same conditions applied to the Distinction academic standing, i.e. no repeated courses and no course grade below B-) would be granted the Graduation Distinction Award of HK$10,000 each. 
  32. High Distinction/Distinction/Merit Scholarship of MSc in Advanced Information Systems & Information Technology Management Programme
    A number of scholarships of up to HK$24,000 each are awarded to students of Master of Science in Advanced Information Systems and Information Technology Management programmes who have achieved outstanding academic results during their studies. 
  33. HKBU Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Scholarship
    A scholarship is available to a postgraduate BGS member who demonstrates excellence in academic achievement and extra-curricular activities and with a good character.  The student should have achieved the highest cumulative GPA (in taught postgraduate programme) in the preceding academic semester immediately following his/her admission as a BGS member.
  34. HKBU Friends Scholarship
    浸大摯友獎學金
    Scholarships of up to HK$8,000 each are awarded to local students who have met the admission requirements to the MALCS programme, and once attended an HKBU-affiliated institution at the primary, secondary or tertiary level. The scholarships would cover a part of the tuition fees.

  35. HKBU MBA Zhuhai Class of 2017 Endowment Fund
    香港浸會大學MBA珠海六班基金
    An endowment fund of HK$136,667, donated by the MBA Zhuhai Class of 2017, provides a scholarship of HK$5,000 to an academically outstanding postgraduate or undergraduate student in the School of Business, who has good personality, leadership skills and active participation in community services. The scholarship may also be given to an undergraduate student to support his/her participation in a service programme.
  36. HKICS Foundation Scholarship
    香港特許秘書基金獎學金
    A scholarship of HK$6,000 and a scholarship of HK$10,000, donated by The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries Foundation Limited, are available for the best student of the BBA (Hons) programme and the best student in the MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance programme respectively.
  37. HKICS Foundation Subject Prize
    香港特許秘書基金科目獎
    Three course prizes of HK$3,000 each, donated by The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries Foundation Limited, are awarded to the best MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance student in “Corporate Governance & Risk Management” and BBA students in “Company Law” and “Business Ethics & Corporate Social Responsibility”.
  38. Hong Kong Association of University Women Postgraduate Scholarship
    大學婦女香港協會研究生獎學金
    Scholarships of HK$20,000 each are open for competition to all full-time female postgraduate students in Hong Kong who have achieved outstanding academic results. 
  39. Hong Kong Electric Scholarships for Energy & Environmental Studies
    港燈能源及環境研究獎學金
    Two scholarships of HK$5,000 each are available to full-time local undergraduate or postgraduate students who have achieved outstanding academic results in energy or environmental studies. 
  40. International Postgraduate Scholarships of School of Business
    In order to enhance student diversity and provide students with a global educational experience, a number of scholarships are available to incoming full-time international taught postgraduate students of the School of Business. Full tuition waiver and living allowance of HK$100,000 would be offered to students who demonstrate competitive academic performance and/or professional experience. 
  41. International Student Scholarship Scheme of MA in Language Studies
    國際學生入學獎學金
    Scholarships are open to incoming international students in order to increase students’ diversity and enhance their exposure. The scholarship awards vary from 15% to 100% of the total tuition fee and will be deducted from the tuition fee upon admission. The scholarships are awarded based on a holistic review process that includes academic results, academic outputs, interviews, relevant test scores and/or other evidence of excellence and aptitude. 
  42. Lee Chan Yuet Ming Memorial Scholarship for Chinese Medicine Postgraduate
    李陳月明中醫藥研究生紀念獎學金
    Up to two scholarships of HK$5,000 each are available to local Chinese Medicine Research Postgraduate students with outstanding academic performance and contribution in research.  
  43. Lei Yue Mun Hoi Bun School Scholarship
    鯉魚門海濱學校獎學金
    An endowment fund of HK$550,000, donated by the former Lei Yue Mun Hoi Bun School, provides two scholarships for an outstanding undergraduate student and a postgraduate student studying the Education programme with enthusiasm about education. 
  44. Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Fund Postgraduate Scholarship
    李寶椿慈善信託基金研究生獎學金
    A scholarship of HK$10,500, donated by the Li Po Chun Trust Fund, is awarded to a local full-time research postgraduate student who has made good progress in his/her research studies in the previous academic year. 
  45. Life-long Learning Reward
    終身學習獎勵
    Students and alumni of HKBU, HKBU-SCE and UIC are entitled to a Life-Long Learning Reward of HK$10,000 each (reduction in fee charged in semester 2) if they choose to remain at the University to study for the MScGMM programme. This reward is offered by the Department of Marketing, HKBU. 
  46. MA in Chinese Literature, Language & Culture Programme Academic Performance Scholarship
    「中國文學、語言及文化文學碩士課程」學業優異獎學金
    Four scholarships of HK$42,000 each are awarded to students of the Master of Arts in Chinese Literature, Language and Culture programme who have outstanding academic performance. 
  47. MA in Literary & Comparative Studies—Outstanding Academic Achievement Prize
    Prizes ranging from HK$3,000 to HK$7,000 each are available to graduating students with the top cumulative GPAs, which should be 3.40 or above upon completion of the programme. 
  48. Madam Esther M W Wong Scholarship
    黃美慧女士獎學金
    Two scholarships of HK$5,000 each are available to local undergraduate or postgraduate Social Work students with outstanding academic performance, financial needs, personal qualities and non-academic achievements.  
  49. Madam Hui Tang Shing-yan Fellowship
    許鄧成仁女士研究生獎學金
    A trust fund of HK$200,000, donated by Dr Stephen S F Hui, provides fellowships for postgraduate students with good academic performance, good conduct and financial needs. 
  50. Madam Shao Shu Lung Memorial Prize (for Postgraduate Students)
    蕭瑞麟女士紀念研究生獎學金
    An endowment fund, donated by the Lee family and the Tsui family, provides a scholarship for an MPhil or PhD student in History who has published at least one scholarly article in a well-established refereed journal in the current academic year, and has demonstrated outstanding performance in his or her research. 
  51. MATRAN Programme Entrance Student Scholarship
    Two scholarships of HK$30,000 each are awarded to a talented local and a non-local student who are officially admitted to the Programme with outstanding academic performance.
  52. MATRAN Programme International Student Scholarship
    A scholarship of HK$50,000 is available to an international student who is officially admitted to the Programme with outstanding academic performance.
  53. MATRAN Programme Scholarship (China Foreign Affairs University)
    翻譯及雙語傳意文學碩士課程特設獎學金(外交學院)
    A maximum of two scholarships of HK$30,000 each are available to the MATRAN applicants from the China Foreign Affairs University, with outstanding GPA and/or academic performance. 
  54. MA in Language Studies (MALS) Dissertation Excellence Prize
    優秀論文獎
    To encourage students’ progression from undergraduate and taught postgraduate of the Department into the research postgraduate programme, prizes of HK$10,000 to HK$15,000 each are awarded to the best five dissertations that score at or above “A-” each year.
  55. Merit Award of MSc in Analytical Chemistry Programme
    Awards of HK$3,000 to HK$20,000 each are awarded to both full-time and part-time students of Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry programme who have received good and excellent academic results during their studies. 
  56. Merit Scholarship of MSc in Mathematical Finance Programme
    Up to six scholarships are awarded to full-time students of Master of Science in Mathematical Finance programme who have achieved good and excellent academic results during their studies.
  57. Merit Scholarship of MSc in Operational Research & Business Statistics Programme
    Scholarships of up to HK$50,000 each are awarded to full-time students of Master of Science in Operational Research and Business Statistics programmes who have achieved good and excellent academic results during their studies. 
  58. Mrs Edith N de O Sales Scholarship
    沙理士博士夫人獎學金
    A scholarship of HK$5,000 is available to an outstanding postgraduate student studying in the Master of Social Sciences in Sport and Leisure Management programme. 
  59. MScBM Entrance Award
    Entrance scholarships of up to HK$40,000 each is available to Master of Science in Business Management (MScBM) full-time class students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, interview performance, records of extracurricular and community activities as well as financial needs. 
  60. MScBM Diversity Contribution Scholarship
    The Diversity Contribution Scholarship is available to Master of Science in Business Management (MScBM) full-time class students who can enhance the diversity of the Programme. Candidates would be assessed on a combination of factors including international exposure, cultural experience, overseas education, work experiences, special achievement and talents. The scholarship amount ranges from HK$50,000 to full tuition waiver. 
  61. MSc in Environmental & Public Health Management Scholarships
    Outstanding Student Scholarships: Scholarships of up to HK$10,000 each are awarded to six outstanding graduates (two graduates from each group) of the MSc in Environmental and Public Health Management (EPHM) programme. 
    Admission Scholarships: Scholarships of up to HK$10,000 each are offered to incoming students who (1) obtained an IELTS score of at least 7.0 or CET-6 score of at least 540; and (2) had excellent academic record in his/her undergraduate studies. Scholarships of up to HK$10,000 each are offered to incoming part-time students who at the time of application, must be in full-time employment in the environmental and/or public health field. 
  62. MScGMM Scholarships
    環球市場管理學理學碩士獎學金
    A maximum of five scholarships of HK$10,000 each are awarded to students with an outstanding academic performance at the end of the MScGMM programme. Students do not need to apply for the scholarship under this merit-based scholarships scheme. 
  63. Overseas Scholarship of MSc in Analytical Chemistry Programme
    A scholarship of up to HK$40,000 is awarded to full-time non-local and non-mainland students of Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry programme with academic merits.

  64. Prof Huie Carmen Wah-kit Memorial Scholarship
    許華傑教授紀念獎學金
    An endowment fund, established in memory of the late Prof Huie Carmen Wah-kit, provides scholarships of HK$10,000 to HK$20,000 each to full-time students of Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry with academic merits. 
  65. Prof Jerry W Barrett Scholarship
    白智理教授獎學金
    An endowment fund, donated by a group of staff members in honour of Prof Jerry Barrett, provides a scholarship of HK$5,000-HK$7,000 to a postgraduate student in Chemistry with the highest academic standing at graduation. 
  66. Prof Martha P Y Cheung Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding PhD Students
    張佩瑤教授紀念基金優秀博士生獎學金
    The scholarship is established to honour the memory of Prof Martha Cheung, and provides full funding for one outstanding PhD applicant to pursue research in Translation Studies in the Translation Programme at HKBU. Criteria such as existing research output, academic qualifications and so forth, would be assessed. 
  67. Research Postgraduate Performance Award
    Research postgraduate students of Computer Science Department would be awarded a prize of HK$10,000 if they (i) have at least one first-authored research paper published or accepted for publication in a top journal/conference, or (ii) have received a Best Paper Award from a reputable international journal/conference in an academic year. 
  68. Research Postgraduate Research Scholarship
    A scholarship of HK$10,000 is available to research postgraduate students of the School of Business who publish in “B+” journal (as defined in the BUS Journal list) in an academic year. 
  69. Scholarship for Awardees of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)
    A number of scholarships of up to HK$15,000 per month each are awarded for a maximum of four years to research postgraduate students of the Department of Computer Science who have successfully admitted to 4-year PhD programme via HKPFS. 
  70. Scholarship for Nominees of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)

  74. SLM Scholarship for New Admitted Students from Asian Countries
    運動與休閒管理社會科學碩士獎學金
    A maximum of two scholarships equivalent to one-year full-time tuition fee are awarded to new admitted outstanding students from Asian Countries (except Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China) studying the Master of Social Sciences in Sport and Leisure Management programme. Awardees should be former or current sport or leisure administrator, or practitioner, or athlete who has participated in major international sporting events. 
  75. The C I Stapleton Scholarship
    Two scholarships of HK$50,000 each, donated by The Stapleton General Bursary Fund, are awarded to full-time undergraduate or postgraduate students from the Diocesan Boys’ School (“DBS”), the Diocesan Girls’ School (“DGS”) or any school of the English Schools Foundation (“ESF”) with outstanding academic achievements. Preference would be given to students with greater financial need.

    An award of HK$2,000 is set up to encourage publication by postgraduate students in first-tier academic journals. It would be given on top of the Student Incentive Award from the Faculty of Arts and throughout the whole study period (two-years for MA & MPhil or three-years for PhD), a postgraduate student may receive up to two awards.

    Not less than HK$10 million has been set aside by the School of Chinese Medicine to establish scholarships, ranging from HK$10,000 to HK$120,000 per student per year, for outstanding local students who enter HKBU through JUPAS. Annual renewal of the scholarship is subject to the GPA result at or above 3.40.

    Scholarships of HK$1,000 to HK$3,500 each are awarded to outstanding students who have actively participated in services for the department, the university, and/or community. 
  79. Consulate General of Spain Prize for the Promotion of Spanish Culture
    The aim of the award is to promote the learning of the Spanish language and culture, and cross-cultural exchange, to HKBU students who are enrolled on a Spanish course at the Language Centre of HKBU. The award helps to cover the tuition fees, travel and living expenses incurred while studying at a university in Spain, or the award can be used to finance other activities related to learning about the Spanish language and culture.

  81. Creative & Professional Writing Programme Award
    創意及專業寫作課程獎
    The Award is to give recognition to students in the Creative and Professional Writing programme who have excelled in their studies and to encourage them to achieve better academic results. The Award would be given out on a yearly basis according to the students’ GPA calculation. 
  82. Cultural Experience Award
    Awards of a total of HK$20,000 in every semester are available to encourage residential learning via meaningful projects and service to peer residents. The Award Review Panel would review and award the CEA programme with reference to the award scale. 
  83. C V Starr Scholarship Fund
    Scholarships, donated by the Starr Foundation, are available to Mainland students with good academic achievements and financial needs. Recipients should not receive admission scholarships concurrently. 
  84. Dan Yang Wing Man Mainland Exchange Scholarship for Chinese Medicine Students
    鄧楊詠曼中醫藥學生內地交流奬學金
    An endowment fund of HK$1,000,000, donated by Ms Dan Yang Wing Man, provides three to four scholarships to outstanding students of the Chinese Medicine or Pharmacy programme who will go for an exchange in the Mainland, and have excellent academic achievement, as well as good personalities and manners.
  85. David Bordwell Prize for Student Publication
    Up to three prizes of HK$1,000 each, are available to outstanding Creative & Professional Writing students in Year IV with good achievement in publication.
  86. DC Foundation Scholarship
    滙溋基金獎學金
    A number of scholarships of HK$10,000 each are awarded to (i) Master of Fine Arts in Film, Television & Digital Media Programme students who demonstrate excellence in their MFA Thesis Project I (Production), and (ii) UGC-funded undergraduate students of the Academy of Film (Year III or IV) and Higher Diploma in Creative Film Production students (Year II) who demonstrate excellence in their academic performance. 
  87. Dean’s Award
    A scholarship of HK$20,000, donated by Prof Huang Yu, is available to a Year II or above student in the School of Communication with outstanding academic achievements, leadership abilities, extensive general knowledge, excellent communication skills, and have an outstanding record in extra-curricular activities and/or community and voluntary services. 
  88. Dennis & Anne Beaver Foundation Scholarship of Study & Travel Summer Programme to France 
    The scholarship, donated by the Dennis and Anne Beaver Foundation, aims at helping one student enrolled on the French language programme at the HKBU Language Centre to study on a French language intensive summer course at a university in France. The recipient of the award must have attained good academic results on the Language Centre’s French language courses, have a passion for learning about the French language and culture, as well to be in financial need. 
  89. Department of Chinese Language & Literature Exchange Student Scholarship

    To encourage students to study in a non-local institution for one semester so as to broaden their horizons, a number of scholarships of HK$5,000 to HK$10,000 each are awarded to students in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature with good academic results.

    The Scholarship was set up with generous donations from Sociology alumni to honour Dr Siu for his long-time dedicated services in the Department of Sociology, HKBU before his retirement in 2012. Two scholarships are presented annually to two Year II students (one from BSSc (Hons) in Sociology or BSSc (Hons) in Sociology and BEd (Hons) in Liberal Studies Teaching, and one from BSSc (Hons) in China Studies — Sociology Concentration) who have achieved the highest cumulative GPA at the end of semester 2 in Year I.

The student should also have outstanding achievements in music courses within/outside of HKBU.

It is awarded to two Year IV Sociology students who have demonstrated academic excellence and personal integrity (one from BSSc (Hons) in Sociology or BSSc (Hons) in Sociology and BEd (Hons) in Liberal Studies Teaching, and one from BSSc (Hons) in China Studies—Sociology Concentration).

    A one sum contribution of HK$100,000, donated by Mr Edmond and Tony Yue, provides two scholarships of HK$10,000 each to students studying the BA (Hons) in Physical Education and Recreation Management programme. One scholarship would be given to a final year student with the highest cumulative GPA (calculated up to the first semester of their final year of studies). The other scholarship would be given to a final year student with the best performance in university sports team (provided that the student has been with the team for more than one year).

    A scholarship of HK$15,000, donated by EGL Tours Company Limited, is available to a Year II first-generation university student whose parents have not received any post-secondary or university education, and has outstanding academic achievements, as well as outstanding records of voluntary services.

  135. Eileen L. Tsui International Student Exchange Scholarship
    徐莉學生海外交流獎學金
    Four to five scholarship of at least HK$20,000 each are awarded to outstanding students who have secured offers of exchange programmes outside of Hong Kong, to partially cover for expenses, such as passage, accommodation or other living expenses of the exchange programmes. Priority will be given to those who have proven financial needs.

    Full scholarships, donated by Ms Elizabeth Law, are available to newly admitted needy Mainland students who come from remote and less privileged provinces. Annual renewal of the scholarship is subject to outstanding academic performance.

    An award, donated by Dr Yang Suying, is available for the student who produces the best honours project report of the year in the area of syntax, semantics or language acquisition. 
  143. Faculty of Social Sciences Admission Scholarship for Outstanding Students

    Scholarships of HK$42,100 each are awarded to local Year I students who obtain HKDSE score of (i) 25 or above; or (ii) 24 with one 5* in one subject from four core subjects plus one best elective subject, and are admitted to the programmes of the Faculty of Social Sciences.  Recipients cannot receive the HKBU Admission Scholarship for Outstanding Local Students concurrently.

    An endowment fund of HK$500,000, donated by Mrs Yan Kwong Hing Nor Anna, provides a scholarship of HK$20,000 to a Year II or above Science student with outstanding academic achievement in the previous academic year and active participations in extra-curricular activities, as well as community services.

    The scholarship, donated by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, aims at helping students on the French language programme at the HKBU Language Centre to study on a French language intensive summer course at a university in France.   151. Hall Scholarship for Outstanding Freshmen
    優秀新生本科生宿舍住宿獎學金

    Two scholarships are available for each of the six faculties/schools (Arts, Bus, CMed, SocSci, COMM & VA). The scholarships are awarded to Year I students with the best JUPAS entrance results or senior-year entrants with the best cGPA from previous studies who have been offered a hall place in their first year of study. The amount of the scholarship covers the Hall lodging fee only.

    A maximum of eight scholarships are available to local students who are admitted to the Bachelor of Science (Hons) programmes with good academic performance in HKDSE or their previous studies. The awardees would be granted free Hall residence in their first year of study.

    Two scholarships of HK$20,000 each, donated by the Hang Seng Bank, are available to local Year II or III students who have achieved a GPA of 3.30 or above and contributed not less than 100 hours of recognised voluntary services on an annual basis.

  155. HKBU Admission Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding Local Senior Year Entrants

    One-off scholarships in the amount equal to one-year tuition fee are available to qualified local sub-degree holders admitted to HKBU degree programmes as senior year entrants.

    Awards of HK$5,000 to HK$10,000 each are available to outstanding students who would represent HKBU to participate in conferences, competitions or activities in the Mainland or overseas countries. Eligible candidates should have been admitted to the conferences, competitions or activities, and are required to provide relevant proofs when they apply for the award.
  159. HKBU Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Scholarship
    Two scholarships are available to undergraduate BGS members who demonstrate excellence in academic achievement and extra-curricular activities and with good character. The students should have achieved the top two highest cumulative GPA in the preceding academic semester immediately following their admission as BGS members. 
  160. HKBU Elite Athletes Admission Scheme
    香港浸會大學精英運動員入學計劃
    In order to offer financial support to elite athletes in achieving outstanding performances at regional and international sports competitions, awards in the amount equal to full or half tuition fees provided by the University are available to elite athletes admitted to HKBU’s degree programmes. The scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years subject to the students’ academic results, good progress in sport training and performance as well as contributions to the Sport Leadership Programme. The level of scholarship support would base on the applicants’ current and most recent sport achievements.

  188. HSBC Scholarships
    The following scholarships, donated by the Hongkong Bank Foundation, are available to students in selected disciplines. Candidates are required to compete with students of other institutions in Hong Kong and attend a panel interview held by the Foundation.

    (a) HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship: Scholarships for outstanding local students.
    (b) HSBC Overseas Scholarship: Scholarships for non-final year outstanding local students who would spend a semester or a year of full-time study at one of the designated overseas universities.

The recipient should have active participation in activities which can positively demonstrate the spirit of Humanities and Creativity. It could be embodied through social services, publications, public awards, and/or any action that brings good impression of the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing to the public.

    Scholarships of up to HK$150,000 each are open for competition from local students (except for first and final year students) undertaking a science-related degree in Hong Kong, with outstanding academic performance and all-rounded development.

    Up to three scholarships of HK$10,000 each are available to Mainland students with outstanding academic achievements, proven track record of activities that promote cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Mainland China, or services in Hong Kong for those students from Mainland China or in Mainland China for those students from Hong Kong.
  334. Sponsorships for Outstanding Mainland Students
    A total sum of HK$240,000, donated by Mr Yu Yui Chiu, provides four scholarships of HK$10,000 each to Year II Mainland students with outstanding academic performance. 
  335. Summer Internship (Mainland)
    Two awards of HK$6,000 each, supported by the Baptist Chemists, are granted to chemistry students to support their summer internship in the Mainland. Chemistry alumni would provide additional funds for covering students’ accommodation and meals. 
  336. SV Foundation Students Scholarship

    Five scholarships of HK$10,000 each, donated by the SV Foundation, are awarded to Year II local students who have outstanding academic results and proven financial needs from the School of Communication, School of Business, Department of Social Work and Department of Physics. In case there are no eligible candidates from the disciplines specified, the scholarships would be opened to students from other disciplines who can meet the eligibility requirements.

    Two full-tuition scholarships, donated by John Swire & Sons (HK) Limited, are available to students with excellent academic performance, personal qualities and achievements. The scholarship is tenable for the full programme of study subject to satisfactory academic results each year.

    An endowment fund, donated by the Ten Pao Group Holdings Limited, provides up to ten scholarships of HK$10,000 each to Year II or above local students who have completed at least three consecutive semesters of their studies with significant academic improvement. Students should also have outstanding performance in community services. Priority would be given to students with financial needs.

    The Scholarships, donated by Mr Terrance H M Yeung, aim to provide opportunities for Associate Degree students of the College of International Education to widen their horizons and enrich their learning experience by joining the global exchange programmes that take place outside Hong Kong.

    Two scholarships of HK$50,000 each, donated by The Stapleton General Bursary Fund, are awarded to undergraduate or postgraduate students from the Diocesan Boys’ School (“DBS”), the Diocesan Girls’ School (“DGS”) or any school of the English Schools Foundation (“ESF”) with outstanding academic achievements. Preference would be given to students with greater financial need.

    A one sum donation of HK$10,000 is available to provide a prize of HK$1,000 in alternate years in recognition of an outstanding honours project submitted by a student of potential writing on a topic within the subfield, broadly defined, of sociolinguistics. 
  345. The HeArt Touch Charity Foundation Outreaching Award

    Ten scholarships of HK$10,000 each, donated by The HeArt Touch Charity Foundation, are available to SCE students enrolled in full-time programmes at sub-degree and undergraduate degree levels to support them to participate in activities conducted outside Hong Kong.
  346. The Hong Kong Children's Choir Music Scholarship

    Two scholarships of HK$10,000, donated by The Hong Kong Children's Choir, are awarded to outstanding local students from the Department of Music who have achieved good academic results. Priority will be given to students who major in voice, or have a good track record in vocal music activities. The awardees of the scholarships are required to provide 20 hours of music-related services, such as providing support for music library and choral classes at The Hong Kong Children’s Choir, to enrich their out-of-classroom learning experiences.
  347. The Hong Kong Institute of Financial Analysts & Professional Commentators Foundation Scholarship

    Two scholarships of HK$10,000 each, donated by The Hong Kong Institute of Financial Analysts & Professional Commentators Foundation Limited, are awarded to outstanding local Year II or above Communication students who have secured an internship in Mainland China with excellent academic achievements in the previous academic year and intellectual qualities as well as leadership abilities. 
  348. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship Scheme

    Five scholarships, donated by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, are awarded to four Year I or II local and one Year I or II Mainland students with excellent academic performance and strong leadership qualities as demonstrated in their involvement in extra-curricular activities and/or community services. One of the four scholarships for local students is dedicated for a student with special educational needs. Annual renewal of the scholarships is subject to outstanding academic performance.

    A scholarship fund of HK$200,000, donated by Hong Kong Wong Clan Association, provides two scholarships to students whose family name is “黃” with outstanding academic performance.

    The Scholarships, donated by The International Institute of Management Foundation Limited, are awarded to Associate Degree students of the College of International Education with outstanding academic performance upon graduation. 
  351. The Italian Cultural Society of Hong Kong - Leo Tung-hai Lee Scholarship Fund
    The scholarship, established in collaboration with The Italian Cultural Society of Hong Kong, supports an outstanding student in Music or Visual Arts every year to study credit-bearing courses in Italy as an exchange student for one semester or one year. If the student selected comes from the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music Programme, he/she should be a distinguished performer. He/She should study in the music school of a university or a conservatory in Italy. If the student selected comes from the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts Programme, he/she should study in the arts school of a university in Italy.

    An RGS scholarship of HK$10,000 is made available to a final-year Geography student with good performance in his/her honours project.

    One scholarship of HK$5,000 is available to a student of the Department of Accountancy and Law who has achieved the best result in the course “Hong Kong Taxation”.

  358. Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Admission Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding South & South East Asian Ethnic Minority Students

    Scholarships are awarded to outstanding local ethnic minority students who are admitted to degree programmes offered by HKBU via JUPAS or non-JUPAS. At least one parent of the applicant should report an ethnic heritage from one of the designated South and Southeast Asian countries. Selection criteria include academic potential, financial needs, participation in community service and extra-curricular activities, leadership qualities, goals and desire to contribute to society, as well as other talents or non-academic achievements.

  362. Undergraduate Overseas Summer Research Scholarship Scheme

    The Scholarship is awarded to students of the Department of Computer Science who plan to have graduate study overseas to attach to an overseas research laboratory for 4-8 weeks (Year III summer) at an amount up to HK$15,000 per student to support the air ticket and accommodation expenses. Students are required to attain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or above at the end of Year II study, and attain satisfactory performance after engaging in a research project under the supervision of an academic staff for at least one semester. 
  363. Undergraduate Scholarship in Computer Science

    Scholarships of up to HK$12,000 each are available to students admitted (enrolled) in the 4-year Programme of the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, or BSc (Hons) in Computing and Information Systems who have achieved grade 5* or above of either Mathematics or Information and Communication Technology in HKDSE and have satisfactory interview performance; or having strong commitment to developing career in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, achieving A- grade or above in "Essence of Computing", and attaining a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or above at the end of Year I study.

    An endowment fund of HK$3 million, donated by the WKF Charity and Education Foundation, provides scholarships to students who are admitted to exchange programmes or short-term experiential learning programmes in One Belt, One Road regions (except China, Taiwan and Macau). Recipients should have outstanding academic performance with good character, strong leadership abilities, as well as active participation in extra-curricular activities or social services.

    Maximum 6 Gold (HK$10,000 each) and 8 Silver (HK$5,000 each) awards, donated by the Wofoo Foundation, are provided to outstanding students whose demonstration on leadership, service and civic education have made a significant impact within the University and the community. 
  371. Wong Li Yuk Ying Outgoing Exchange Scholarship for BBA Students

    The scholarships are awarded to BBA students who have secured offers of exchange programmes outside Hong Kong, to cover the living expenses. Students should have good academic achievement, evidence of participation in community service, service/contribution to the University/School and/or extra-curricular activities.

    An endowment fund, donated through the joint effort of the Lion’s Club of Mount Cameron and Radio Television Hong Kong, provides a scholarship to a student with good academic achievements in Communication.

    An endowment fund of HK$1.5 million (HK$1 million donated by Prof. Xiao Xiaosui, Professor of Department of Communication Studies and HK$0.5 million contributed by the School of Communication) provides 3 scholarships of HK$20,000 each to outstanding Year II or above students from the Academy of Film, Department of Communication Studies and Department of Journalism, who have excellent academic achievements.

    An annual fund of HK$15,000, donated by the Apple Daily Charitable Foundation, provides three bursaries of HK$5,000 each to local undergraduate students with financial difficulties and under 25 years of age.  
  4. Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Accountancy Bursary
    Bursaries set up by Department of Accountancy and Law are available to students from Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Accountancy with financial needs.

    Ten bursaries of HK$5,000 each, donated by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, are available to local undergraduate students of the School of Business with satisfactory academic performance and financial needs.  
  6. Career Commitment Bursary for Master of Science in Environmental & Public Health Management Programme

    Bursaries of HK$5,000 each, set up by Department of Biology, are granted to incoming part-time students of the Master of Science in Environmental & Public Health Management Programme who at the time of study are in full-time employment in the environmental and/or public health field. Other criteria to be considered include job relevance, reliability of the evidence, evidence of career commitment, recommendations from the employer.

    Twenty-five bursaries of HK$5,000 each, donated by The Incorporated Trustees of The Cheng Foundation, are granted to local undergraduate students with proven financial needs and satisfactory academic performance.

    An endowment fund of HK$55,000, donated by the City Lions Club of Hong Kong, provides a bursary of around HK$5,000 for a local undergraduate freshman with financial needs and satisfactory academic performance.

    Bursaries, donated by Dr Lee Shiu, are available for Mainland undergraduate students with proven financial needs.
  11. First Generation University Student Fund

    A fund for needy local first-generation undergraduate students, whose parents have not received any tertiary education, is set up to financially support them to participate in diverse outside-of-classroom learning activities.

    An annual donation of HK$30,000 by the Han-Fang Chinese Medicine Company Limited provides bursaries of not less than HK5,000 each to needy students of the Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science and the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in Chinese Medicine.
  13. Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) Bursaries

    Four bursaries of HK$5,000 each, donated by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), are available to Accounting local non-freshmen with genuine financial hardship and satisfactory academic performance.

    A bursary of HK$85,000, provided by Department of Education Studies, is granted to a full-time Master of Education programme student who comes from a less-developed Asian country with proven financial needs.

    An annual donation of HK$100,000, made by the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation, provides ten bursaries of HK$10,000 each to students, who have financial needs and satisfactory academic performance, from the Higher Diploma programmes of the Academy of Film.

Each bursary recipient is required to perform community services for not less than 10 hours and submit a report to the Donor.

    With a maximum total amount of HK$100,000, donated by The Albert Young Foundation Limited, five or more bursaries of not more than HK$20,000 each are granted to local undergraduate students who come from low income families in Hong Kong and obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above. Each bursary recipient is required to perform community services for not less than 10 hours and submit a report to the Donor.
  34. The Henrietta Hall Shuck Assistance Fund
    An endowment fund, donated by The Henrietta Hall Shuck Assistance Fund, provides two bursaries of HK$5,000 to HK$8,000 each to local undergraduate students with genuine financial needs every year with the disposable income generated.
  35. University Baptist Church Bursaries
    大學浸信會助學金
    Three bursaries of HK$6,000 each, donated by University Baptist Church, are granted to students with financial needs and satisfactory academic performance, who are current officers or active members of Christian student organisations of the University.
  36. Weeds on Fire Final Year Film Project Subsidy
    A subsidy of HK$10,000 each, provided by the Academy of Film, is awarded to ten final year students on "production" track from the UGC-funded undergraduate programme and higher diploma programme of the Academy of Film for their outstanding Graduation Projects.
  37. Yu Wing Fun Josephine Bursary
    余詠芬助學金
    A bursary of HK$5,000, donated by Ms Yu Wing Fun Josephine, is available to assist a needy local undergraduate student from the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music.
  38. Zheng Ge Ru Foundation Bursaries
    鄭格如基金助學金
    Twelve bursaries of HK$10,000 each, donated by Zheng Ge Ru Foundation, are available to needy local undergraduate students who have satisfactory academic performance.

Emergency Funds for Needy Students

Anytime in the academic year, students who have emergency financial needs due to unforeseeable circumstances may apply for assistance from Hong Kong Rotary Club Students’ Loan Fund, The Croucher Foundation Fund for Students with Emergency Needs, Winsor Emergency Loan and other contingency funds. Applications should be made to the Office of Student Affairs.
